Madame Mutharika Says New Roundabouts To Beautify LL City, Appeal For Care Of Environment







The First Lady of the Republic of Malawi, Madame Gertrude Mutharika says the capital city, Lilongwe, will soon wear a new beautiful look with two roundabouts under construction near Parliament building and Capital Hotel.

Beautify Malawi (BEAM) Trust has embarked on the project of constructing two state of art roundabouts in the city and more other such roundabouts will be constructed in all cities across the country.









"These state of art roundabouts will beautify our city of Lilongwe and all other cities of this country" said Her Excellency Dr. Gertrude Mutharika, patron and founder of BEAM Trust on Sunday evening in Lilongwe when unveiling the project which intends to beautify the city

She said BEAM plans to construct modern roundabouts are inspired by beautiful roundabouts available in other developed countries. He therefore assured that BEAM will continue with such projects in all cities across the country as one way of beautifying the general outlook of the country's infrastructure like roads.

The Malawi's First Lady further appealed to companies, institutions and individuals of goodwill to partner with BEAM in this noble task so that BEAM can take the initiative to other remaining cities.

Madame Mutharika also appealed for collective efforts in the protection of the Malawi's natural environment for the country to return its natural beauty and end climate induced calamities the country continue facing.

"We need to take care of our natural environment, climate change is real and in this country we have seen its devastating effects. If we do not change our way of doing things all these efforts to beautify our country will be in vain.

Because of the climate change, the water table has gone down, as we water our flowers let us use the water sparingly. Let's continue to work together for a cleaner, healthier and beautiful Malawi."



Lilongwe City Mayor, Willie Chapondera thanked BEAM Trust for starting the initiative in his city and described the project as a "landmark" which will beautify the city.

In his remarks, Lilongwe City Assembly Chief Executive Officer, Moza Zeleza said the project signify the milestone in the partnership between BEAM Trust and the Lilongwe City Assembly.

"As Lilongwe City Assembly we are committed to care for these roundabouts to our best" he added

It is expected that the completion of the work for the roundabouts will be in September this year.
