Love Malawi Festival Helps Hundreds With Eye Problems In Lilongwe

Hundreds of Malawians, both young and old having sight problems when reading texts have in the week received a free gift of pair of reading glasses after being properly examined by United States and Malawian eye doctors partnering together under Love Malawi Festival.


The free eye glass clinics began on Monday August 15, up to Friday August 19, 2016 in four communities in the city of Lilongwe at Living Waters Church in Area 25, M’buka CCAP Church in Area 36Kafita CCAP Church in Area 23Assemblies of God Church in Chinsapo and Dzaleka Refugee Camp (Only on August 16 and17).

A lot of Malawians with eye problems went to get help in very large numbers and Love Malawi Festival Coordinator Reverend Grey Mwalabu said they had set aside a total of 10,000 Pairs of Reading Glasses for free.

Mr. Robert Secret Munlo from Chinsapo who has lived with eye problem for over five years expressed his excitement for receiving pair of reading glasses which he said are now helping him read his bible and any textbook without problems.

“I have got eye problem particularly the first one (pointing his right eye), I was failing to read my bible and any textbook. It was great concern for me.” He said

“When I heard that Love Malawi Festival is giving eye reading glasses for free I did not hesitate to come.” Said Munlo who thanked Love Malawi Festival for the gift saying the problem has been troubling him for a long time since he lost his first glasses and could not afford to buy one.

Another 52 year old, Dickson Chiwoza Nkhoma, from Chiwoza village in Mpingu disclosed that his problem began in 2014 and the same year he went to see the doctor for his problem but the main challenge was fetch for money to buy a pair of reading glasses.

“I have been feeling pain when reading passages.” He said “When reading, my eyes were in pain and the texts were too small and I could not read them. Now, Love Malawi Festival doctors have given me the glasses and prayers. These glasses are helping me because I can now see texts clearly and I am able to read without problems.”

Love Malawi Festival is part of a larger story in Africa that involves 10 Capital Cities in 10 years -a vision of international evangelist Andrew Palau, supported by and at the invitation of leaders in Africa. Significant festivals have taken place in Cairo, Egypt; Kigali, Rwanda; Kampala, Uganda; Bujumbura, Burundi; Dar es Salaam, Tanzania; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

Conclusion of the festival is this Saturday, August 20 August up to Sunday August 21, 2016, taking place in Lilongwe in the open fields near Maula Prison.  And each day Andrew Palau will share a message of love and hope for Malawi. Love Malawi festival began with events in Mzuzu and Ntcheu during the first week of August as well as in Zomba and Blantyre during the second week of August including Dzaleka Refugee Camp.

Beginning this Saturday morning up to Sunday, the festival will feature a high energy children’s program with Duggie Dug Dug from London, England as well as action sports demos from FMX and BMX stunt team Action Sports Outreach.  The riders are from South Africa and the United States.

Renowned Praise and Worship Leader, Don Moen will perform live each day in the afternoon along with Dave Lubben who will share stage with Malawian artists; Great Angels Choir, Kamuzu Barracks Gospel Singers, KBG, Faith Mussa, Suffix, and Love Malawi Choir. 


This event is a partnership between the Luis Palau Association based in Portland, Oregon and currently over 500 partnering churches in the City of Lilongwe. The local leadership planning this festival involves over 200 volunteers from every major denomination in the city under the umbrella of the Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM).
