Parliament Pass 2016/17 Appropriation Bill, Customs & Excise, Taxation Bills









On Friday, the National Assembly passed Bill No. 27 of 2016 Appropriation following passing of the 2016/17 National Budget by the House on Thursday night.

The House pass Appropriation bill without debate and amendment to formally allow Government to appropriate resources in form of taxes for the resources to fund the activities of the Government.


Two bills; Customs and Excise (Amendment) and, Taxation (Amendment) were also passed before the passing of the Appropriation bill.

"Having passed the Budget it naturally follows that taxation bills that anchor budget ought to be passed as well." Said Finance Minister Goodall Gondwe

In 2016/17 financial year the National Assembly has allowed Government to appropriate and use the financial resources amounting to K1.149 trillion (One Trillion, One Hundred and Forty-Nine Billion, Three Hundred and Thirty-Five Million, Two Hundred and Fifty-Ninety Thousand, Six Hundred and Forty-Six Kwacha) to be appropriated to the Consolidated Recurrent and Capital Accounts for the purpose set out in the Recurrent and Capital Estimates.
