Confirmed; National Assembly Meeting Extended

Msowoya announced the extension of time 








The Speaker of the National Assembly, Richard Msowoya and Leader of House, George Chaponda have finally confirmed that the house will continue meeting up until Friday next week.


The 3rd Meeting of 46th Session of Parliament to consider budget was originally planned to end this Friday, but due to backlog of bills, Government has decided to extend the time and that both leadership in the National Assembly has agreed with the change.

“As you are aware that the meeting has been extended till next week, we will continue meeting on Monday. And after further consultations it has been agreed by the leadership that we meet immediately after adjournment to look at the business that will be taking place next week.” Announced the Speaker, Richard Msowoya

In an interview immediately after the House was adjourned for Monday next week George Chaponda confirmed; “It pleased his excellency the President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to allow the extension of the meeting of the House.”

“Today as you know we could have concluded the business of the House but it has been extended to next week till Friday. The reason being that we need to conclude the remaining business more especially bills.” He disclosed

In his explanation just after the Speaker had informed the House before adjournment that the time has been extended, Chaponda mentioned that next week House will deliberate on bills particularly land bills, money bills, human rights bill, forestry and many others.

Meanwhile, the Business Committee has agreed that the next week business will begin on Monday afternoon and that on Wednesday the House will meet full day and not starting from afternoon as it has been the tradition during the normal sitting days.
