Mwanza Court Add 9 Months To Three Jail Breakers

Three men of ages ranging from 18 to 25, are regretting, and learned dangers of breaking law the hard way, after their jail break attempt resulted each of them an extension to their prison sentences.

Mwanza First Grade Magistrate Court in Mwanza on Monday added 9 month prison sentence to prison sentences of Henry Samson aged 25, Leonard Lameck aged 23 and Mwandida Kuntola aged 18, after their recapture on 12 June, 2016 when they broke out from Mwanza prison.

According to Mwanza Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Edwin Kaunda, the three were convicted in 2015 for committing different offenses in separate occasions within Mwanza district and are serving different jail terms at Mwanza prison.

Inspector Kaunda said in 2015, Henry Samson was sentenced to 7 years for the offence of house breaking, Leonard Lameck has 4 years and 4 months prison sentence for Burglary and theft, while Mwandida Kuntola has 5 year jail term for the offence of Burglary.

"The three escaped from Mwanza Prison on the 12th June, 2016 at around 10:00 hours" narrates Inspector Kaunda "but the prison officials managed to arrested them after an hour of chase on the same day."

Inspector Kaunda said police took them to Mwanza First Grade Magistrate Court on Monday, June 20, 2016 where they pleaded guilty to the charge of Escaping from Lawful Custody contrary to section 34 of the penal code.

"His worship Ranwell Mangazi proceeded to give each of them a 9 month jail term and said this will run consecutively to the sentences they were serving before the escape. This sentence came when state prosecutors prayed for stiffer sentence to the three convicts" said Inspector Kaunda

Henry Samson comes from Mchotseni village T/A Kanduku in Mwanza and Leonard Lameck comes from Magaleta village T/A Mlauli in Neno while Mwandida Kuntola comes from Kamoto village T/A Dambe in Neno.
