Malawi Death Penalty Protest: Kalindo Pulls Crowd Singing Kill Who Kill Albino

Legislator Bon Kalindo has pulled largest crowd ever, chanting songs demanding death penalty for convicts found guilty in cases of albino killings and attacks.

Kalindo has stunned the onlookers for his courage to go on with naked protests putting on red boxer, vest and headgear. Others have joined him including renowned activist Billy Mayaya who also has put on red shorts and T-shirt.

The primary and secondary school children also joins the demonstrations. The pupils made their separate demonstration detached from the main crowd singing "Opha alubino sim’bale wathu or Albino killer is not brother. Must be killed also"

Kalondo who is expected to present the petition to the National Assembly through Rumphi East legislator, Kamlepo Kalua, told the crowd before beginning the demonstrations that that he is touched with these evil of killings and abductions of persons with albinism.

He warned that if National Assembly does not force the country to invoke death penalty he will hold another protest to call Malawians to take law into their own hands.

“If the National Assembly fails to honor our demands, then it is better that the Parliament should not exist. Failure to accept our demands will mean that they don’t listen to wishes of people.” Said Kalindo

He also noted with concern the little representation from the country’s activists and civil society organisaions as only renowned activist Billy Mayaya is taking part in the demonstrations.

Kalindo has also asked Amnesty International not to interfere with wishes of Malawians.

“Amnesty, this is Malawi, let us do things our own way to end the albino killings. This is time for death penalty” said Kalindo who shouted “Amnesty International must go to hell!”

“We are Malawians and we know the best way to deal with this matter, we don’t want to take any forein advice but to make sure that who kills persons with albinism also that person must be killed.” Stressed Kalindo

This is a historical moment for Malawi and first time for a legislator to lead demonstrations which are asking the National Assembly to act swiftly on the nation concern.

The crowd has probably been attracted due to announcements that Kalindo has been informing the nation that he wants to hold naked protests.

Some persons with albinism have also come to participate although they are not in large numbers.
