Cashgate: ACB Happy With 3Yr Sentence For Senzani

The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has expressed its contentment of the verdict passed to the top cashgate convict Tressa Namathanga Senzani on Tuesday 7th October 2014.


Senzani a former Ministry of Tourism Principle Secretary has been sentenced to 3 years imprisonment on money laundering charge and 9 month imprisonment on theft of up to K63.5 million.

Deputy Director for ACB Reyneck Matemba who has been a lead prosecutor in Senzani case said the custodial sentence given to Senzani is a step ahead in prosecution of Cashgate cases.

Three Boys Arrested For Setting A Roadblock


Three young boys are in Salima police custody for unlawfully setting a roadblock using stones at Kamuona Trading Centre along Salima-Nkhotakota road.

According to Salima Police Public Relations Officer Sergeant Gift Chitowe the three did this on 6th October with an intent to cause an accident and rob the motorists when they happen to bump the stones.

The three have been identified as Erick Chiwalo aged 18 from Kabango village T/A Chikowi in Zomba, Gift Mumba aged 14 fromChibale village and Steven Missi aged 12 from Kachigwada village both of T/A Mwanza in Salima.

According to Sergeant Chitowe the three suspects were on that day evening spotted by the members of general public putting stones across the road. And we'll wishers immediately phoned police.

The young boys will soon appear in court to answer charges of conduct likely to cause a breach of peace which attracts 7 year jail sentence.

Cashgate: Senzani Sentence This Tuesday

The Lilongwe High Court Judge Justice Ivy Kamanga has on Monday 6th October 2014 failed to pass sentence to the first Cashgate convict Tressa Namathanga Senzani because the judgment was not ready till late hours of the day.

But Justice Kamanga has told the Defense and State lawyers in her chamber on Monday evening that she had throughout the day preparing the sentence but could not pass it on the same day because she finished at late hour.

House Adjourns Sine Die With Appraisal From Both Sides















The Malawi National Assembly adjourns Sine Die this afternoon with high appraise by all sides of the house pertaining to the level of debate in the house.

Leader of House Honorable Francis Lazaro Kasaila in his adjournment motion speech thanked all members for the fruitful deliberations and level of behavior shown in the house.

One of the parliamentarians who has been advocating for Malawi government to adopt Federal system of government Honorable Enock Chihana hails government for accepting to opening up for a debate on Federalism calls.

Chihana a Rumphi Central Parliamentarian and President for Alliance For Democracy (AFORD) said he is happy that government has now accepted calls from several parliamentarians from Northern Region who seek government to adopt Federal system of government as it will assist all Malawi regions to have equitable access to development projects

Committee Of Supply Passes K325. 936 Billion Of 2014/15 Budget











The National Assembly is expected to pass the 2014/15 National Budget this Friday as the Committee of Supply will only be required to pass Thirteen votes that remained on Thursday business sessions.
The second day of Committee of Supply on Thursday has passed a sum of K325.936 billion from 31 votes of various budget allocations to government ministries and departments.

Committee of Supply Passes K91.3 billion On Wednesday











The Malawi National Assembly has during the first day of the Committee of Supply session on Wednesday passed K91.365 Billion from the current 2014/15 budget estimates.
The session has since adjourned at 18:27 hours for Thursday 25th September 2014 sitting where the house will continue for the whole day up to Friday this week passing the remaining votes of the budget estimates.
