The National Assembly is expected to pass the 2014/15 National Budget this Friday as the Committee of Supply will only be required to pass Thirteen votes that remained on Thursday business sessions.
The second day of Committee of Supply on Thursday has passed a sum of K325.936 billion from 31 votes of various budget allocations to government ministries and departments.
This development translates a total of 44 votes and a sum of K417.302 billion being passed in two days because on Wednesday the house passed a total of 13 votes of budget allocation estimates of up to K91.365 billion.
Some of the votes that have been passed on Thursday business session include K140. 665 billion allocation to Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development, K81. 680 billion to Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, K1.423 billion to Anti-Corruption Bureau and K2.235 billion to Ministry of Labour and Manpower Development.
If the figures remain unchanged the house will this Friday pass a sum of K202.041 billion budget estimates from thirteen deferred votes that includes three votes that were deferred on Wednesday and ten votes differed at the beginning of Thursday session. Some of these votes include K1.07 billion for Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, K10.571 billion for Accountant Generals Department, K6.401 billion for Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social welfare and K50.760 billion for Ministry of Health including.
In an interview with Leader of House Hon. Francis Lazaro Kasaila immediately after the house was adjourned on Thursday evening to Friday 09:30 morning, he assured that the National Assembly is to approve the budget and pass the Appropriation Bill by this Friday.
“We only have 13 votes, by 12:30 or 1 O’clock am sure we should be able to finish unless something comes in probably we may need to defer that vote for Monday but am expecting that we are going to take care of all the concerns from honorable members. All those votes that have been deferred the Minister is working on them there were issues that were raised and the Minister would want to make sure that he looks at those issues and come in the house, give appropriate answers or increase the votes.” Assured Hon.
