Ntcheu Primary School Teacher Nabbed For Defilement Of 15 Year Old Girl








Police in Ntcheu district are keeping in custody a primary school teacher Davie Katankha aged 38, for allegedly defiling a15 year old pupil.


According to Sub Inspector Hastings Chigalu, Ntcheu district Police Pubic Relations Officer said the accused who teach at Tambala Primary School has been defiling a Standard 6 pupil who goes to the same school for several times before he was finally caught by the victims uncle.


Sub Inspector Chigalu said police recorded statement from the girl who confessed that she was in secret romantic relationship with her teacher Mr. Davie Katankha since December 2015 but this was because she grew tired of rebuffing his relationship proposals putting to her since 2014.


"However, on 6 February this year the girl's Uncle caught the two together and the girl had her teachers cellphone in her possession. 


When asked, the accused admitted to the uncle that he has been sleeping with the girl for several times and further discloses that they once travelled to Balaka district where they spent a night together and had sex with the girl for first the time. On her part, the girl said she was promised marriage in future." Explains Sub Inspector Chigalu


Then Chigalu said after revealing everything, the teacher pleaded with the uncle not to reveal this relationship to anyone for fear of losing his job and he also bribed the uncle with One Thousand and Two Hundred Kwacha (K1, 200) to zip his mouth. 


Regardless of the plea and bribe, Sub Inspector Chigalu said the uncle proceeded to report the matter to Bilila Police Unit where a case of  Defilement contrary to Section 138  of the Penal Code was opened. 


"The suspect is in police custody at Ntcheu Police Station ready to appear in court to answer the charges." Said Chigalu


"As Police, it is our appeal to the teachers that they should exercise maximum responsibility in caring for girls, they should not be the ones in the forefront in victimising the children especially young girls. We will not hesitate to arrest a teacher who violates the rights of these innocent children." Warns Sub Inspector Chigalu


Teacher, Davie Katankha comes from Chikanda village of T/A Wimbe in Kasungu district while the victim, comes from Tambala village of T/A Tanya in Ntcheu district.

Man Sentenced to 6 Yrs for Sodomy of An Epileptic Man

A man who was arrested for Sodomy of an epileptic man in Ntcheu district has been sentenced to 6 years imprisonment with hard labour.


Mr Tokha Nasoni aged 26 was recently arrested for sodomy of Mr Pilirani Thomson aged 20 who has epileptic condition. Both the convict and the victim hails from Ngalande village of T/A Njolomole in Ntcheu district.


First Grade Magistrate Jones Masula when handing over the sentence did not accept the accused leniency request that he looks after his grand mother and two siblings.


The magistrate argued that the accused might have known his responsibilities before committing the offence, adding that the offence is a felony punishable with 14 years Imprisonment with Hard Labour.


The court also considered taking advantage that the victim was a man of unsound mind as one of aggravating factors.


The 6 year sentence is effective from his time of arrest.


Buggery (Sodomy) is contrary to Section 153 sub section A of the Penal Code which attracts a maximum sentence of 14 years.

Man, 26, Committed Sodomy to An Epileptic Man in Ntcheu

A 26 year old man in Ntcheu district is spending time in police custody after it was learnt that he had an anal sex with an epileptic man aged 20.



It is not known if the man did the act for magic charm or he is one of the homosexual.



Mr Tokha Nasoni from Ngalande village of T/A Njolomole, in Ntcheu district allegedly committed sodomy with Mr Pilirani Thomson of same village says police in the district.



Hastings Chigalu, Ntcheu Police Public Relations Officer says the victim who suffers from epilepsy was dragged into the house of the accused during the night of 9-10 May 2015.



The victim was forced to sleep with the accused said Chigalu who indicated that the suspect had taken advantage of the victims mental problem.



"Sodomy was realised when the victim had innocently tried to demonstrate to his brother of what he did with the suspect. The development alarmed the relatives of the victim who immediately took the matter to police." Said Chigalu and further indicate that Medical examination at Ntcheu District hospital indicated the man was sodomised.



The accused has since appeared in court answering a case of Buggery (Sodomy) contrary to Section 153 sub section A of the Penal Code which attracts a maximum sentence of 14 years Imprisonment with Hard Labour if found guilty.

Four Men Hijack Haven Car Hire's Toyota Fortuna... Ntcheu Police Launch Man Hunt

Police in Ntcheu District are hunting for four unknown men who hijacked a Toyota Fortuna, vehicle belonging to Haven Car Hire.



The vehicle white in color with Registration number MC 28 has been hijacked from its driver Friday night says Ntcheu Police.



According to Sergeant Hastings Chigalu a Ntcheu Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, the driver identified as Sydney Kagwira was on his way from Lilongwe to Zomba where the vehicle was to be used by another car hire company, Mame Car Hire.



Sgt Chagalu however, said the driver on his way to Zomba, offered a lift to four unknown men at Mathanki bus stage in Biwi, Lilongwe. The police officer said the Haven's car hire Chauffeur was convinced by the the four to have been on two separate journey when they told him that each pair were going to Ntcheu district and Balaka district respectively.



But, Ntcheu Police PRO said the four launched attack at a place called Mapila along M1 road almost 2 Kilometre from Lizulu going to Ntcheu.



Sgt Chigalu said the four passengers, tied and put the driver at the back of the vehicle before dumping him somewhere near Lizulu Police but was left unharmed.



Police have since arrested the driver for further questioning particularly on finding out if he connived with the robbers.



Sgt Chigalu has since urged drivers to refrain from offering lift to unknown men particularly at Biwi, Mathanki bus stage because there are many similar reported cases of drivers being attacked by passengers offered lift from that place.



The driver, Sydney Kagwira comes from Kapesi village of T/A Kachere in Dedza district.

Former Inmate Gets 8 Years for Prison Breaking, Another Gets 7 Years Imprisonmen for Theft in Ntchisi District

The Ntchisi First Grade Magistrate's Court has sentenced Foster Kambalakwa Phiri, aged 24, to eight years imprisonment with hard labour for burglary and theft.



According to Police Public Relations Officer for Ntchisi District Sergeant Gladson M'bumpha says the convict broke into Chikwatula Prison offices where he stole one set of computer and printer, all valued at K300 000 on the night of 28 March, 2014.



The court further heard that the convict committed the crimes after he had just been released from prison where he was serving a similar sentence for similar offences.



Sergeant M'bumpha says  Kambalakwa who comes from Kazonga Village in the area of Traditional Authority Malenga in Ntchisi, pleaded guilty to both charges and in mitigation asked the court for leniency, saying he is also serving another 12 years jail term for theft and burglary.



However, Ntchisi police PRO said when passing judgement, Second Grade Magistrate Young Ng'oma emphasised that the eight year sentence serves as a warning to other would-be offenders.



In a related development, the same court has sentenced a man, Laston Banda, aged 29, of
Chipelera Village, Traditional Authority Malenga in the district, to 7 years imprisonment with hard for burglary and theft.



Banda broke into and stole various items valued at K72 000 from the house of Mekrina Kansengwa on January 17 this year.
