Ntcheu Primary School Teacher Nabbed For Defilement Of 15 Year Old Girl








Police in Ntcheu district are keeping in custody a primary school teacher Davie Katankha aged 38, for allegedly defiling a15 year old pupil.


According to Sub Inspector Hastings Chigalu, Ntcheu district Police Pubic Relations Officer said the accused who teach at Tambala Primary School has been defiling a Standard 6 pupil who goes to the same school for several times before he was finally caught by the victims uncle.


Sub Inspector Chigalu said police recorded statement from the girl who confessed that she was in secret romantic relationship with her teacher Mr. Davie Katankha since December 2015 but this was because she grew tired of rebuffing his relationship proposals putting to her since 2014.


"However, on 6 February this year the girl's Uncle caught the two together and the girl had her teachers cellphone in her possession. 


When asked, the accused admitted to the uncle that he has been sleeping with the girl for several times and further discloses that they once travelled to Balaka district where they spent a night together and had sex with the girl for first the time. On her part, the girl said she was promised marriage in future." Explains Sub Inspector Chigalu


Then Chigalu said after revealing everything, the teacher pleaded with the uncle not to reveal this relationship to anyone for fear of losing his job and he also bribed the uncle with One Thousand and Two Hundred Kwacha (K1, 200) to zip his mouth. 


Regardless of the plea and bribe, Sub Inspector Chigalu said the uncle proceeded to report the matter to Bilila Police Unit where a case of  Defilement contrary to Section 138  of the Penal Code was opened. 


"The suspect is in police custody at Ntcheu Police Station ready to appear in court to answer the charges." Said Chigalu


"As Police, it is our appeal to the teachers that they should exercise maximum responsibility in caring for girls, they should not be the ones in the forefront in victimising the children especially young girls. We will not hesitate to arrest a teacher who violates the rights of these innocent children." Warns Sub Inspector Chigalu


Teacher, Davie Katankha comes from Chikanda village of T/A Wimbe in Kasungu district while the victim, comes from Tambala village of T/A Tanya in Ntcheu district.

Ntcheu Man Gets 10 Yrs Imprisonment For Defilement Of Girl Aged 7








Ntcheu First Grade Magistrate court has sentenced to 10 years imprisonment a 29 year old man who was caught in act defiling a 7 year old girl in Ntcheu district.


The convict identified as Samson Maganga was arrested by members of community the afternoon of January 26, 2016 at Sharpevalley Trading Centre when a man passing by shouted for help when he red handedly catch the convict defiling the girl in unfinished building.


According to Sub Inspector Hastings Chigalu, a Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for Ntcheu district said a standard 2 pupil met her fate on her way to the trading centre to buy some groceries.


“Court heard that the young innocent girl suddenly was grabed by this irresponsible man and taken into a building under construction. He threatened to kill her using a knife holding in his hand if she dare to shout for help.


His pair of trouser hanging in the building caught attention of a businessman who peeped into the building and saw Samson Maganga on top of the young girl. And without hesitation, the businessman shouted for help and people came and arrested him.” Narrates Chigalu


“Court sitting at Kasinje Ntcheu, on February 11 2016, state prosecutor  Sergeant Daniel Phale asked the court to give the accused stiffer punishment considering the gravity of the offence and that the victim is a minor, but in mitigation the accused asked for leniency, saying he is the first offender and that he regrets the incident. 


But in his ruling, Ntcheu First Grade Magistrate Chrispine Sachuluka, conquered with the state adding that the death threats the young girl and Trauma suffered by the young girl will continue to haunt her for the rest of her life. To deter the other would be offenders he slapped the accused with 120 months imprisonment with hard labour.” explains Chigalu


Sub Inspector Chigalu also mentioned that Ntcheu police station is very much concerned with this​dreadful​behaviour and incidences and that police are doing everything possible to arrest the situation. 


"We have intensified our rural patrols in all T/As and we are working hand in hand with our Community Forums. 


We also want to appeal to the communities to report any suspicious activity to Police so that together we can create Ntcheu which is crime free, so we will relentlessly strive to protect life and property in the District” assured Sub Inspector Chigalu

The convict hails from Kalorila village of T/A Mthiramanja in Mulanje district while the victim comes from Magomero village of T/A Ganya in Ntcheu district.

Man Aged 41 Gets 10 Yrs Imprisonment For Defiling 8 Year Girl In Dowa

41 year old Man in Dowa district has been sentenced to serve 10 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling 8 year old girl.


The man identified as Harold Vanison from Chioko village T/A Nkukula in the district was convicted after pleading guilty to defilement charge.


According to Dowa Police Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Richard Kaponda the Dowa First Grade Magistrate Curt heard that the convict has been sexually abusing the little girl for several times until this year on 4th January when her mother suspected her daughter's limp walking. 


Kaponda said the court was told that after assaulting the girl the convict used to give the victim some sweets and fresh maize as a way of keeping her mouth shut.


The Dowa district police Publicist said during court appearance on Friday 8th January the convict after pleading guilty he asked the court to exercise leniency on him saying that a lengthy custodial sentence will bring suffering to his family because he is the bread winner and further asked for time to be let go home to apply fertilizer in his garden since it is a farming season.


But Sergeant Kaponda said Police Prosecutor, sub inspector Beston Chimbenenga prayed for stiffer sentence which may deter other would be offenders.


Sergeant Kaponda said at last, First Grade Magistrate His Worship Emulani Phiri agreed with the police prosecutor saying the convict needed stiffer punishment to deter other would be offenders because cases of defilement are common in Dowa district then passed the verdict of 10 years Imprisonment with Hard Labour.

Man Imprisoned to 10 Yrs For Defiling 3Yr old Girl in Kasungu

Police in Kasungu district have asked Malawians to work together with police in fight against criminal acts of defilement and rape of children.



The call follows recent conviction and sentencing of 23 year old man, George Dzonzi to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a 3 year old girl child.



According to Kasungu Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Edwin Kaunda, the girl was defiled when she woke up early morning and went outside to answer call of nature.



Unfortunately, the police officer said the girl met Dzonzi who dragged her in his house and got raped. He said the suspecting mother of the victim entered Dzonzi house where she found her daughter lying on a mat and had semen spots seen on her thighs. The mother reported the matter to Bua police and examination by medical officials revealed that the girl was raped.



Inspector Edwin Kaunda has since urged people to report such issues to police in order to end the problem.



“What we are saying is that we are encouraging each and every Malawian, in whatever kind of society that should they hear or have seen that someone has defiled a girl or rape a woman please they should rush to their nearest police station because that will be very important." Said Kaunda, "Be assured that once we as police receive such reports, we will react immediately, investigate and make arrest quickly”



“As you are aware that police is responsible of protecting property and lives of all people and that includes protecting rights of every person. So we are not relenting on this issue, we are going to play our part ensuring that our children are not defiled."



Inspector Kaunda has asked Malawians who are perpetrating the practice to stop saying they are ruining children's future.



"And we are urging people to refrain from such malpractice of raping, and defiling children. Children are the future of Malawi, therefore raping or defiling them is to damage future of Malawi.”



He went on, “Defilement cause permanent damage to their lives including physical and psychological damage. Let us all hold hands to protect the rights and future of our children.”
