Mwanza Court Add 9 Months To Three Jail Breakers









Three men of ages ranging from 18 to 25, are regretting, and learned dangers of breaking law the hard way, after their jail break attempt resulted each of them an extension to their prison sentences.

Mwanza First Grade Magistrate Court in Mwanza on Monday added 9 month prison sentence to prison sentences of Henry Samson aged 25, Leonard Lameck aged 23 and Mwandida Kuntola aged 18, after their recapture on 12 June, 2016 when they broke out from Mwanza prison.

Man, 33, In Police Custody For Defiling Four Girls in a Row

A man aged 33 is in Kasungu Police custody for allegedly defiling four young girls in a row. 



According to Kasungu Police Public Relations Officer Inspector Edwin Kaunda, the man identified as Mpembanji Chisale defiled four young girls of the age ranging from 8 year old to 10 year old. 



Kaunda said, the suspect who works as a tenant at a certain farm, is alleged to have taken some few bottles of beer at Kachere village, later enticed four young girls to have sex with him.



"He took the girls to one of the house and defiled them one after the other." Said Inspector Kaunda 



Inspector Kaunda said the girls revealed to their parents of what had happened to them and without hesitation they rushed to Kasungu Police. 



Kaunda said the suspect, Mpembanji will appear in court soon to answer four charges of
defilement.



Mpembanji comes from Kachere village of TA Mwase in Kasungu.

Two Kasungu Men Sentenced To 10 Years For Defilement

It seem issues of defilement refuse to die in Malawi, as Kasungu First Grade Magistrate Court on Friday sentenced two men to stay for ten years imprisonment  for defiling little girls.



According to Kasungu Public Relations Officer Inspector Edwin Kaunda two young men  Frank Nyirenda aged 28 who defiled a 12 year old girl and John Magombo aged 30 who defiled a 14 year old girl are to remain behind bars for ten years.



According to Inspector Kaunda,  the two had in their separate incidences defiled the girls and and appeared before Kasungu Court to face justice.



Kaunda said Nyirenda attacked the girl (name withheld) by dragging her to a bush at place which is between Lukwa Trading Center and Mwimba village. On this day the girl was on her way to a maize mill. 



In similar incident John Magombo defiled a 14 year old girl. Magombo who worked for the father of the girl, coaxed the girl to escort him to Chinkhoma Trading Center where he defiled her.



Appearing before Kasungu First Grade Magistrate Court on Thursday both pleaded guilty to the charges of defilement.



In passing the sentence on Friday His worship Damiano Banda while observing that cases of defilement are so rampant in Kasungu district emphasised that the two needed stiffer punishment to protect the society and send a lesson to would be perpetrators. 




Some few days ago, a 28-year-old teacher from Mingu Primary School in Ntchisi has been sentenced to 50 months imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a 14-year-old girl who was in standard eight.



Ernest Banda,  a 48 year old teacher at Mziza Secondary School is also expected to answer charge of defilement of a 14 year old imbecile,  contrary to section 139 of the Penal Code.



Kasungu Police Public Relations Officer,  Inspector Edwin Kaunda said the teacher, a Seventh Day Adventist, invited in his house the fellow church member (14 year old girl) and defiled her.

Man Imprisoned to 10 Yrs For Defiling 3Yr old Girl in Kasungu

Police in Kasungu district have asked Malawians to work together with police in fight against criminal acts of defilement and rape of children.



The call follows recent conviction and sentencing of 23 year old man, George Dzonzi to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour for defiling a 3 year old girl child.



According to Kasungu Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Edwin Kaunda, the girl was defiled when she woke up early morning and went outside to answer call of nature.



Unfortunately, the police officer said the girl met Dzonzi who dragged her in his house and got raped. He said the suspecting mother of the victim entered Dzonzi house where she found her daughter lying on a mat and had semen spots seen on her thighs. The mother reported the matter to Bua police and examination by medical officials revealed that the girl was raped.



Inspector Edwin Kaunda has since urged people to report such issues to police in order to end the problem.



“What we are saying is that we are encouraging each and every Malawian, in whatever kind of society that should they hear or have seen that someone has defiled a girl or rape a woman please they should rush to their nearest police station because that will be very important." Said Kaunda, "Be assured that once we as police receive such reports, we will react immediately, investigate and make arrest quickly”



“As you are aware that police is responsible of protecting property and lives of all people and that includes protecting rights of every person. So we are not relenting on this issue, we are going to play our part ensuring that our children are not defiled."



Inspector Kaunda has asked Malawians who are perpetrating the practice to stop saying they are ruining children's future.



"And we are urging people to refrain from such malpractice of raping, and defiling children. Children are the future of Malawi, therefore raping or defiling them is to damage future of Malawi.”



He went on, “Defilement cause permanent damage to their lives including physical and psychological damage. Let us all hold hands to protect the rights and future of our children.”

Shocking As 18 Year Old Mother Murder Own Child In Kasungu District

A teen mother aged 18, Agnes Songwe is in Police custody in Kasungu district for horribly murder her 1 year old baby as a way of ending a long misunderstanding with the baby's biological father.


Inspector Edwin Kaunda, Kasungu Police Public Relations Officer says Agnes stabbed her 1 year baby in the neck and dumped the body secretly.


The Kasungu Police PRO narrates that Agnes had left the child in custody of grandmother in Kasungu district since she married a Man in Dowa district.


Kaunda said the biological father of the child, Jonathan Gonthi denied to marry Agnes right away she was pregnant and also could not provide any support to the baby as promised.


Like a normal visit, Inspector Kaunda says on 5th May this year Agnes arrived at Manthalekani village in the area of TA Chilowamatambe in Kasungu district where the child and grandmother were living then committed the murder.


Upon her arrest Inspector Kaunda says Agnes admitted the murder but said she did it just to make her mother live a free life from waves of threats issued from biological father of her child, Jonathan who together with his relatives had once forced Agnes mother to move out of the village after she asked him to begin support the child.


Agnes was arrested on Saturday and led police to a place where she dumped the the baby.


Agnes hails from Manthalekani village TA Chilowamatambe in Kasungu and will be taken to court very soon to be formally charged.

Man Gets 8 year Jail Sentence for Possessing Marijuana

Kasungu  First Grade Magistrate Court on Friday  has sentenced Symon Phiri age 46 to serve 8 years imprisonment for being found in possession  of cannabis sativa popularly known as Marijuana or Indian Hemp.


Symon was arrested on 18th April this year after Police got a tip from members of the public that he was keeping  cannabis  in his house said Inspector Edwin Kaunda Kasungu Police Public Relations Officer.


Inspector Kaunda said the man was found with 34 bags of the drug each weighing 50kg.


He pleaded  guilty to charge of being found in possession of cannabis sativa which is contrary to regulation 4(a) of Dangerous drug regulation as read with section 19(1) [subsection 1], of Dangerous Drug Act. 


Police prosecutors also tendered to court the said bags of cannabis sativa before sentencing.


In his submission the state prosecutor Assistant Superintendent Alphas Banda asked the court to give the convict a stiffer punishment because the offence he committed is serious and that the drug is one of the cause of insanity among the youths in the country. 


His worship Damiano agreed with state prosecutor and  gave the convict eight year jail term. 


Symon Phiri comes from Mekembambo village of Sub T/A Chisinga in Kasungu district.

Security Guard Pays K30 Thousand Fine After Forcing An Old Woman To Drink Her Pee

  • A 65 year old woman was having a pee outside hospital guardian shelter and security guard forced her to drink her urine
  • The guard aged 20 has been fined K30 thousand which K25 thousand will be her compensation 



A security guard aged 20, working at Kasungu District Hospital in Kasungu district has narrowly escaped 18 month jail sentence after being found guilty of forcing an old woman to drink her pee.

A 65 year old woman identified by police as Loveness Phiri, complained to Kasungu Police on 6th April this year that she was forced by a watchman to drink her urine when found urinating outside Kasungu District Hospital guardian shelter and not in the toilet.

According to Inspector Edwin Kaunda, Kasungu Police Public Relations Officer says police rushed the woman to the hospital and made an arrest of the guard, Davison Baloyi who has since paid a fine of K30, 000 in default of 18 month jail term where K25, 000 will compensate the victim,

Inspector Kaunda explained that in the night of 6th April 2015 a woman aged 65 was sleeping at Kasungu district hospital guardian shelter waiting for her grandson who had been admitted at the hospital.

The Police officer said the one of the security guards at the hospital named Davison Baloyi aged 20, spotted the old woman having wee outside the shelter instead of using the hospital toilets.

“When asked of what she was doing, the old lady made an apology that she did not where the toilets were. However, the guard forced the woman to drink her flowing urine.” narrated Inspector Kaunda, and said the granny drunk her own urine for fear of the angry security guard.

Following this inhuman treatment by the guard, Inspector Edwin Kaunda said the victim, reported the matter to nearby Kasungu Police office and was rushed to hospital for medical care while the arrest was made.

Davison Baloyi was charged with Administering noxious substance (Contrary to section 240 of penal code) an offence which he had at first denied but pleaded guilty when Police Prosecutor Griffin Luhanga had paraded two witnesses.

The Kasungu Second Grade Magistrate Court, convicted and sentenced the security guard to 18 month imprisonment or pay a fine of K30 thousand in default. 

He has since paid the fine of K30, 000 in default to serve s jail sentence of up to 18 month. Part of the money amounting to K25 thousand will be given to the victim as compensation.
