Police Nets 52 In Salima, Ntchisi, 2 Vendors Sentenced Over Alcohol In Sachets

Police in the districts of Salima and Ntchisi have intensified security through sweeping exercises being carried out day and night in order to arrests criminals.

Police in Salima on Wednesday night arrested 33 people as one way of making Salima district a go-zone area says the Police Public Relations Officer in the district, Sub Inspector Gift Chitowe.

“The police have intensified day and night patrols which have seen a lot of suspects being netted. This is being done to make Salima a safe and secure district.” Said Chitowe while confirming the arrests

He said on 23rd September police managed to arrest 16 women who were earning their living on prostitution, 12 men for Rogue and Vagabond and the remaining 5 people, for illegal (unregistered) bicycle hire operations. All will appear in court soon to answer the stated charges, he said

Meanwhile, Police in Ntchisi district says, at least 19 people are expected to start appearing before Ntchisi First Grade Magistrate's Court following their arrests during a sweeping exercise police conducted during the night of Wednesday this week.

“The sweeping exercise led by Ntchisi Police operations officer Inspector Keston Madela was conducted at Ntchisi Trading Centre.” Said the district Police Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Gladson M’bumpha

“Following the sweeping exercise, 19 people were arrested during the exercise after being found at the trading centre on the same night and have been charged with the offense of Rogue and Vagabond.”

M’bumpha says the suspects have already been questioned by police and are expected to appear before court soon.

In the same district of Ntchisi, Second Grade Magistrate Court has ordered two men to pay a fine of K40,000 each or in default serve a twelve-month jail term for being found selling liquor without a license.

The two, Masa Makina aged 29, from Kabwazi village of Traditional Authority Njolomole in Ntcheu and Chipiliro Kachigunda aged 37, from Zionetsa village of Traditional Authority Malenga in Ntchisi, were on September 3rd of this year, found selling liquor without a license.

According to Sergeant M’bumpha, two were arrested during sweeping exercise at Ntchisi Trading Centre after they were found selling liquor in sachets and had their cartoons of beer seized.

Ntchisi Man Gets 18Yrs For Attempted Rape, Burglary As Cattle Thief Torched Hands

A man in Ntchisi district has been given a total prison sentence of 18 years for two counts of attempted rape and burglary.

However, he will only spend 10 years imprisonment after the court ruled that the two sentences will run concurrently.

According to Sergeant Gladson M’bumpha, Ntchisi Police Public Relations Officer, the convict Sambani Mtete aged 38 pleaded guilty to both counts of burglary and attempted rape charges which are contrary to Sections 309 and 134 of the Penal Code respectively.

He said First Grade Magistrate Dorothy Kalua sentenced Mtete to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour for attempted rape while on burglary has earned him 8 years.

Ntchisi Police PRO recounts that the convict, on the night of August 21, 2015 at Tchite Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kasakula in the district, broke into the house of Dorcas Banda with intent to commit felony.

However, before stealing from the house, he began to caress Dorcas who was asleep but his touches awakened her and shouted for help.

“This prompted the convict to run away and left in the house a pair of trouser and a plastic jumbo which contained a bottle of cocacola and his pair of trouser was left in the house because the convict was already undressed in readiness for the act.” Narrates M’bumpha

The convict comes from Tchite Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kasakula in Ntchisi.

Meanwhile M’bumpha says a 19-year-old man is in stable condition after angry mob assault and burnt both his hands near to ashes for failure cooperate when caught red-handed with three stolen cattle.

The suspect is currently admitted at Ntchisi District Hospital and police says will answer a charge of theft of cattle soon after discharged from the hospital.

The police officer said the suspect, Josaidi Jeremia stole three cattle on September 7, 2015.  M'bumpha said the suspect stole from the same family just few weeks after he tricked the family to give him K100 thousand.  Sergeant M'bumpha said he tricked the wife of that family that he would like to use that money to pay for police bail of her wife. 

According to Sergeant Gladson M’bumpha, the suspect, Josaidi Jeremia has previously been assisting police and that on 30th August this year he led police to recover stolen cattle. However, M’bumpha said the suspect has changed from good to bad after his odd character.

60 Year-old Man Dies In Brutal Clash Over Land Ownership

A 60-year-old man has died in a fierce clash over land in Ntchisi, now Police are reportedly keeping in custody a 40-year-old man on murder. 

However, police in the district also says enquiries are in progress to establish full details of the incident.

According to Sergeant Gladson M’bumpha, Ntchisi Police Public Relations Officer, the deceased has been identified as Kenani Kafikeni aged 60 while the suspect is Rojas Chidambo aged 40.

M’bumpha says the two were in a fierce battle on Thursday morning over ownership of a garden and that each had used a dangerous weapon in the fight. 

“Our preliminary investigation indicates that on Thursday at 9 am the deceased had gone to cultivate in his garden but after sometime he saw the wife of the suspect coming into the garden also to cultivate. 

However the deceased threaten the woman and she backed off.” Sergeant M’bumpha explains

M’bumpha said the threatened woman returned home to inform her husband who got annoyed and he went himself to that garden to meet late Kafikeni.

“They were fighting using a hoe while another had a panga knife. They both sustained multiple cuts and were taken to Ntchisi District Hospital.

However the deceased was pronounced dead on arrival at Ntchisi District Hospital while the suspect got admitted.” Said Sergeant M’bumpha while indicating that the postmortem revealed that death was due to hemorrhagic shock secondary to severe loss of blood

Suspect, Rojas Chidambo and late Kenani Kafikeni both hails from Chawala village of T/A Vusojere in Ntchisi district where the incident also took place.

Woman Commit Suicide After Suffering from Cancer

Police in Ntchisi district in the central region of Malawi says a 50 year old woman has committed suicide for allegedly suffering from cancer disease for a very long time. 

The suicide which police suspect to have occurred between Tuesday and Wednesday this week, found the deceased hanging in a tree.

Police have identified the deceased as Selina Zamtima of Kankowe village in the area of Traditional Authority Nthondo in Ntchisi. 

Sergeant Gladson M'bumpha, Ntchisi Police Public Relations Officer, while confirming the suicide said the woman was diagnosed with cancer long time ago.

"The deceased has been suffering from cancer for along time and she has been admitted to Ntchisi District Hospital for several times." confirmed 

Sergeant M'bumpha indicated that the woman has been critically ill and week so that her husband had on 11 August 2015, taken her to a traditional doctor at Khadani village for further assistance. 

However, the Ntchisi Police PRO indicated that the deceased never get any treatment from the traditional doctor and that on August 18th 2015 at around 8pm she went missing only to be discovered hanging up in a tree.

M'bumpha said postmortem conducted by a medical officer revealed that death was due to suffocation and no foul play suspected. 

He also indicated that the incident took place at Khadani village in the area of Traditional Authority Chikho in the district. 

Ntchisi Woman Die in Collapsed Clay Soil Mine

A 52 year old woman has died in a tragic accident in Ntchisi district when upper cavity walls of clay soil tunnel she was in collapsed.

Ntchisi District Police Public Relations Officer,  Sergeant Gladson M'bumpha said the deceased identified as Mary Batson Mwale, was buried inside canal when trying to mine clay soil which she wanted to decorate her house.

"Police investigations indicate that on Monday July 27 2015 at around 4pm, the deceased in a company of two other women went to collect soil
for smearing their houses.
As the deceased was digging the soil in the mine, the upper cavity of the wall of the mine collapsed and fell over her and died on the spot." Said M'bumpha

Sergeant M'bumpha indicated that clinical officer from Ntchisi District Hospital confirmed that the death was due to internal bleeding.

The incident that killed Mary Batson Mwale on Monday 27th July,  2015 happened at Chinguwo village in the area of Traditional Authority Kalumo in Ntchisi

Sergeant M'bumpha said the deceased was from Nkhwindima village in the area of Traditional Authority Kalumo in Ntchisi.

Similarly incident has occured on 16th this month where a woman lost life in Dowa district while two others were admitted at Dowa District Hospital when the upper cavity of a tunnel they were in to extract clay soil collapsed and fell on them.

Sergeant Richard Kaponda,  Dowa Police Public Relations Officer identified the deceased as Namatochi Isaac aged 62 of Mwaza village  from T/A Chiwere in Dowa district.

He said these women were in a village competition involving prize money to the best house decorator. He said the incident took place at Bimphi village T/A Chiwere  and were trapped in a cave along Chigodi river where the deceased died on sport due to head injuries.

Edwin Mauluka Today understands that the Dowa incident is the third in the district in a period of two years following two separate incidences last year.  In one incident that occurred in April 2014,  three women died and one was left with sustained serious injuries.

However Sergeant Kaponda says such incidences are happening in the same area despite several warnings from the chiefs and police.

Two Criminals Arrested As Man Found Dead In Ntchisi

Police in Ntchisi have arrested two people considered by police as dangerous gang of criminals. And manhunt continues for other members masterminding a spate of breakings offences within Malomo Trading Centre, says Sergeant Gladson M'bumpha Ntchisi Police Public Relations Officer.

According to Sergeant M'bumpha, the two suspects were arrested after a tip off from a sex worker who discovered their criminal acts while residing with them at the same Rest house.

"The tip off that swept into the two suspects was a big victory for the law enforcement in Ntchisi and the police have applauded the sex worker's good work." Said Sgt M'bumpha who named notorious acts of the two allegedly committed as the recent burglary, theft and breaking at Malomo Trading Centre.

Police have identified the suspects as Madalitso Govani Nyanja Limbani aged 21, of Thom Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kasumbu in Dedza and Madalitso Mwale, aged 21, from Malasa Village in the area of Traditional Authority Malengachanzi in Nkhotakota district.

Sgt Gladson M'bumpha said police in Ntchisi district for several weeks, have been receiving reports of burglary, theft and breaking cases which the two suspects have been admitted to have been involved in such criminal acts particularly at Malomo Trading Centre and further admitted that they were involved in recent breaking at Malomo Trading Centre.

The two suspects who are being kept at Ntchisi Police station will appear before court soon being charged with burglary, theft and breaking pending other charges and further investigations.

Meanwhile, police have called upon people to report all suspicious people to police and be vigilant at all times as the police is concerned by the trend of breakings.

In the Same District of Ntchisi

Unknown man was found dead at Gamba Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chilooko In Ntchisi.

Ntchisi Police Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Gladson M'bumpha says Thokozani Kapanyanga of Kavulala Village in the area of Traditional Authority Chilooko in Ntchisi informed police that some women fetching for firewood discovered the  remains of the man in the bush.

M'bumpha says Police visited the scene on the same day accompanied by a medical official who confirmed the remains to be of human being. The police officer said the body is suspected to have been there for a very long time and it was in a decomposed state making it difficult to establish the cause of the death.

"The remains which comprised of skull and other parts had been ordered to be buried at the same place." Said Sgt M'bumpha adding that enquiries are in progress to find relatives.

Ntchisi Police, Communities Join Forces in Protecting Albino

Police in Ntchisi have assured people in the district that it is geared to deal with all suspects who are trafficking and mistreating albinos.

According to Ntchisi Police Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Gladson M'bumpha, police in the district had on Thursday conducted Community Policing meeting at Traditional Authority Chilooko Headquarters where Officer Incharge for Ntchisi Police, Assistant Commissioner Chaupi Chiona appealed to the general public to report to police all suspected persons doing albino selling business.

"During the meeting,  weak and dead community policing forums were revamped to ensure that the area have total security." Said Sgt Gladson M'bumpha

Sgt M'bumpha also mentioned that during the meeting, Police distributed reflectors to community policing forums and members as one way of thanking them for the good work of working hand in hand with the police in reducing crime.

The Ntchisi Police PRO further said Traditional Authority Chilooko expressed gratitude for the restructuring of the community policing forums and further appealed to his subjects to help police tighten security and protect people with albinism.

The meeting attracted Senior Group headmen, Village headmen and community policing forums and members from the area of Traditional

Authority Chilooko in the district.

Former Inmate Gets 8 Years for Prison Breaking, Another Gets 7 Years Imprisonmen for Theft in Ntchisi District

The Ntchisi First Grade Magistrate's Court has sentenced Foster Kambalakwa Phiri, aged 24, to eight years imprisonment with hard labour for burglary and theft.

According to Police Public Relations Officer for Ntchisi District Sergeant Gladson M'bumpha says the convict broke into Chikwatula Prison offices where he stole one set of computer and printer, all valued at K300 000 on the night of 28 March, 2014.

The court further heard that the convict committed the crimes after he had just been released from prison where he was serving a similar sentence for similar offences.

Sergeant M'bumpha says  Kambalakwa who comes from Kazonga Village in the area of Traditional Authority Malenga in Ntchisi, pleaded guilty to both charges and in mitigation asked the court for leniency, saying he is also serving another 12 years jail term for theft and burglary.

However, Ntchisi police PRO said when passing judgement, Second Grade Magistrate Young Ng'oma emphasised that the eight year sentence serves as a warning to other would-be offenders.

In a related development, the same court has sentenced a man, Laston Banda, aged 29, of

Chipelera Village, Traditional Authority Malenga in the district, to 7 years imprisonment with hard for burglary and theft.

Banda broke into and stole various items valued at K72 000 from the house of Mekrina Kansengwa on January 17 this year.
