The third accused Raphael Kasambara has described the verdict by Justice Michael Mtambo as "staged justice" and expressed intentions to appeal.
Kasambara has been found guilty on conspiracy on attempted murder of former budget director Paul Mphwiyo after full trial. He has been convicted on Thursday together with second accused Pika Manondo and first accused McDonald Kumwembe charged with both conspiracy and attempted murder that took place on September 13, 2013 at Area 43 in Lilongwe but Mr. Mphwiyo survived from three gun shots.
"God is in control, who are we?" Shouted Kasambara as he was escorted into anti-riot police vehicle which was ready packed at the court.
Asked if he will appeal he replied "Of course we are appealing! God is in full control! He shall overcome this injustice. It was staged justice which has been passed."
However, his co-accused, Pika and Kumwembe both refused to make comment on the ruling by the Judge.
"I don't want to say anything" responded Pika as he walked side by side in handcuffs with Kumwembe
Meanwhile, One of the state advocates in the case Enoch Chibwana has expressed readiness of the State if Kasambara and other two convicts will still go on with plans to appeal.
Chibwana further expressed contentment with the ruling saying this shows that their side did a good job of proving the case beyond the reasonable doubt.
There was heavy presence of armed police at the court and everyone was searched when entering the court room.
Kasambara resisted handcuffs and opted to be walked into the police vehicle freely.
With huge police presence it was even so difficult for the crowd who wanted to see Kasambara getting near him as police created a shield as they walked him to the vehicle.
