Chinese Government says it will continue to support Malawi because of friendly and enhanced bilateral relations that exist between the two countries.
The Chinese Ambassador to Malawi Zhang Qingyang said this in an interview following Wednesday’s announcement by President Peter Mutharika that Chinese Government is set to implement seven multi-million projects in Malawi and provide free and soft loan grants.
The Ambassador Qingyang said Malawi will continue to enjoy support from China due to enhanced bilateral relations and trust that exist between the two countries
He said as largest economy in the world with vast experience China intention in Malawi is to share its experience to the least developed countries like Malawi which are eager to develop themselves.
“China is ready to support Malawi financially and technically. China intention to Malawi is only to help and show brotherly and sisterly friendship.” He said
“We are not coming here to make profits or take resources we came here for brotherly friendship. And every development we do here because of our enhanced relationship belongs to people of Africa” added Ambassador Qingyang
He however, urged Malawi authorities including Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) and Immigration department to assist well, the Chinese people coming to Malawi to start businesses.
“They are coming here with various businesses, so authorities must assist them well” he urged
On Wednesday, President Mutharika announced that China has approved seven project including The 300 Megawatt Kam’mwamba Coal Fired Power Plant which will complete in three year time, The E-Government Project which will lay the fibre optic cables to increase internet connectivity and National Identification Project as well as rehabilitation of Chileka International Airport.
Mutharika also said China has provided and agreed to disburse grants to the Malawi Government total of US$ 106 million.
The grants includes projects for Construction of the Blantyre District Hospital and Cancer Centre in Blantyre at Kameza, Procurement of police vehicles for the Malawi Police Service and support for technical services for the Bingu National Stadium.
