Cashgate: Christopher Tukula Granted Bail

The chief resident Magistrate court in Lilongwe has granted bail to Christopher Tukula a Asset Declaration Director who was arrest by ACB.

Tukula has pleaded not guilty to all two charges that ACB has formerly charged him.

Mr. Paul Mphwiyo and his wife Thandie are still in the same court waiting on their formal charge.


Tukula bail conditions are

•Surrender travel documents to ACB

•Reporting at ACB once a month

•And Produce one reliable and traceable sureties to court.

Christopher Tukula hails from Mbadza village T/A Nsamala in Balaka.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau on 17 October, 2014, arrested Mr. Christopher Tukula, the Director of Public Officers’ Declarations for allegedly interfering with investigations in the ongoing cash gate cases.

The Bureau said had established that Mr. Tukula was interfering with potential witnesses by casing them to give false information to the Bureau contrary to Section 14 (1) (a) (b) and (c) of the Corrupt Practices Act.

The Bureau added that the arrest came after the Court in Mzuzu on 16 October, 2014 had set aside Mr. Tukula injunction which was obtained  through his lawyer Mr. Raphael Kasambara restraining the Bureau from executing its warrant of arrest against him.

Tukula was taken to Court after the Bureau had recorded a caution statement from him.
