Mutharika Appoints 9 On Diplomatic Mission; Mhone, Mhura, Mussa among the list.

The Malawi leader Professor Peter Arthur Mutharika has appointed nine new officers who will be representing the country as Ambassador's and High Commissioners.

The appointees includes one of the prominent lawyer Necton Mhura, Voice Mhone a former  chairperson for the Council for Non-Governmental Organizations in Malawi (CONGOMA), and Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) Vice President for the Eastern Region and former  Zomba Central Constituency parliamentarian Yunus Mussa.


According to a Press Statement dated 26th October 2014 signed by Mr. George Mkondiwa Chief Secretary to the Government, these appointments have been made in exercise of powers conferred upon President Mutharika as stipulates on Section 89(1)(e) of Constitution.

The statement reads "The President of the Republic of Malawi, His Excellency Professor  Arthur Peter Mutharika, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 89(1)(e)  of the Constitution of the Republic of Malawi has made several new diplomatic  appointments for Ambassadors and High Commissioners."

The appointees are, Mr. Voice Mhone as Ambassador to Germany, Mr. Chimango Chirwa as   Ambassador to Ethiopia and the African Union.

Mr. Ted. Kalebe is Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union, Mr. Yunus Mussa is Ambassador to Egypt.

Another appointee is Dr. Chrissie Kaponda as High Commissioner to South Africa,   Mr. Edward Sawerengera is Ambassador to Brazil.

Mr. Thoko Banda is Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr. Necton Mhura is now Ambassador to the United States and Mr. Frank Viyazi is High Commissioner to Mozambique.

The statement has indicated that "All the newly-appointed diplomats, except Mr. Thoko Banda who was already confirmed, will go through the Public Appointments Committee (PAC) of Parliament."
