Cashgate: Senzani Sentence This Tuesday

The Lilongwe High Court Judge Justice Ivy Kamanga has on Monday 6th October 2014 failed to pass sentence to the first Cashgate convict Tressa Namathanga Senzani because the judgment was not ready till late hours of the day.

But Justice Kamanga has told the Defense and State lawyers in her chamber on Monday evening that she had throughout the day preparing the sentence but could not pass it on the same day because she finished at late hour.

House Adjourns Sine Die With Appraisal From Both Sides















The Malawi National Assembly adjourns Sine Die this afternoon with high appraise by all sides of the house pertaining to the level of debate in the house.

Leader of House Honorable Francis Lazaro Kasaila in his adjournment motion speech thanked all members for the fruitful deliberations and level of behavior shown in the house.

One of the parliamentarians who has been advocating for Malawi government to adopt Federal system of government Honorable Enock Chihana hails government for accepting to opening up for a debate on Federalism calls.

Chihana a Rumphi Central Parliamentarian and President for Alliance For Democracy (AFORD) said he is happy that government has now accepted calls from several parliamentarians from Northern Region who seek government to adopt Federal system of government as it will assist all Malawi regions to have equitable access to development projects

Committee Of Supply Passes K325. 936 Billion Of 2014/15 Budget











The National Assembly is expected to pass the 2014/15 National Budget this Friday as the Committee of Supply will only be required to pass Thirteen votes that remained on Thursday business sessions.
The second day of Committee of Supply on Thursday has passed a sum of K325.936 billion from 31 votes of various budget allocations to government ministries and departments.

Committee of Supply Passes K91.3 billion On Wednesday











The Malawi National Assembly has during the first day of the Committee of Supply session on Wednesday passed K91.365 Billion from the current 2014/15 budget estimates.
The session has since adjourned at 18:27 hours for Thursday 25th September 2014 sitting where the house will continue for the whole day up to Friday this week passing the remaining votes of the budget estimates.

Goodall Announces Upward Adjustments To Critical Institutions As He Winds Up Budget Debate











The Minister of Finance Honorable Goodall Gondwe has announced some upward adjustments to some Government Departments and Ministries in response to concerns by members and Budget and Finance Committee report raised during the budget debate that was curtailed on Tuesday 23rd September 2014.
On Wednesday afternoon hon. Gondwe when winding up the debate he noted several additional allocations among them are additional allocation to the health sector, police and Constituency Development Fund.

Mzomera Suspension; Speaker Ruling Final

Speaker of the National Assembly Richard Msowoya has declined to make his on whether it was right for his Second Deputy Speaker to invoke rule 105 against Mzimba Hora parliamentarian Hon. Christopher Mzomera Ngwira and that he should not attend proceedings for two sitting days.

Honorable Msowaya told the house at the beginning of the proceedings of Monday sitting that he cannot make a ruling on another ruling and that standing orders, does not any member to comment on a ruling made by a speaker.

However the speaker has urged members in the house to abide by the rules of the house and warned that any misconduct will attract appropriate orders.

Msowoya further said any member who feels was affected by that ruling and want to seek redress should seek an appeal from the court
