Stop Ill-treating Children With Life Limiting Illnesses; Hospital Is The Answer-CPC

Children’s Palliative Care (CPC) says cases of ill-treatment of children suffering from life limiting illnesses are growing rapidly every passing day in most communities across the country a situation is fueling deterioration in the condition of many little patients.

According to Jean Tauzie CPC Project Coordinator such abuses are being done by both members of communities, parents and guardians of children living with life limiting illnesses. She said some of the reports being received by the organization include reports of discrimination and several forms of abuse, of which some of them are very shocking.

Malawi Improving In Financial Sector Activities­- RBM


The Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) says over the last ten years, the demand and use of various financial services has continued to register an encouraging upward movement. This is because, a lot of people living in both urban and rural areas have started to practice a saving culture and are engaging themselves in various financial activities.

RBM’s Deputy Governor responsible for Supervision Dr. Grant Kabango said this as Malawi begins 2014 National Financial Literacy Week being commemorated under the theme ‘Financial Literacy: Building a Financially Literate Nation’. And the week has been launched on Monday at Community ground in Lilongwe.

Mutharika Appoints 9 On Diplomatic Mission; Mhone, Mhura, Mussa among the list.

The Malawi leader Professor Peter Arthur Mutharika has appointed nine new officers who will be representing the country as Ambassador's and High Commissioners.

The appointees includes one of the prominent lawyer Necton Mhura, Voice Mhone a former  chairperson for the Council for Non-Governmental Organizations in Malawi (CONGOMA), and Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) Vice President for the Eastern Region and former  Zomba Central Constituency parliamentarian Yunus Mussa.

Cashgate; Makande, Chioko On Bail


The Lilongwe Chief Resident Magistrate Court has granted bail to Hophmally Makande on Money Laundering charge.
Makande is being represented by Ralphael Kasambara and has been formerly charged with aiding laundering of K2.1 Billion stolen by Paul Mphwiyo and other suspects.

According to the charge sheet the accused "between months of April and September 2013 aided Paul Mphwiyo, Michael Mphatso, Maxwell Namata, and Leonard Kalonga to launder K2.1 billion"

Cashgate: Christopher Tukula Granted Bail

The chief resident Magistrate court in Lilongwe has granted bail to Christopher Tukula a Asset Declaration Director who was arrest by ACB.

Tukula has pleaded not guilty to all two charges that ACB has formerly charged him.

Mr. Paul Mphwiyo and his wife Thandie are still in the same court waiting on their formal charge.


Cashgate: ACB Arrests Hophmally Makande In LL

The Anti-Corruption Bureau has today, 21 October, 2014, arrested Peoples Party official, Mr. Hophmally Makande.

According to ACB statement Mr. Makande has handed himself over to the Bureau in Lilongwe after he heard that ACB officers were looking for him in Blantyre.

Mr. Makande has been arrested for a suspected charge of conspiring to defraud Government contrary to Section 35 of the Corrupt Practices Act.

This arrest ACB says is in relation to the ongoing investigation into cash gate.

According to the bureau "He will be taken to Court after the Bureau has recorded a caution statement from him."

Last week alone ACB arrested Mr. Christopher Tukula, Asset Declaration Director and the former Budget Director Mr. Paul Mphwiyo and his wife Thandie.

Malawi Consumer Price Indices For September Stands At 23.7%

The National Statistical Office (NSO) has announced that the headline inflation for September 2014 stands at 23.7 percent compared to the headline inflation of 21.7 percent point from same period last year (September 2013).

This is a decline of 0.8 percent from last month (August 2014)before the inflation rate was 24.50 in August 2014 where Non-Food: 25.80 to Food: 24.00

According to NSO statement "The urban and rural rates stand at 30.9 percent and 19.8 percent respectively. Overall, food inflation stands at 22.7 percent from 24.1percent in August 2014."
