Malawi President Peter Mutharika says the country is facing strange immoral behaviours and requires Church to help his government ending them.
Speaking at Kamuzu Palace when meeting Malawi Assemblies of God newly elected leadership Mutharika said the problems facing the country are signs of “moral degradation in our society.” And that Malawians are “far away from God’s Commandments.”
“While thinking about the great responsibility that the church leadership has, it pains me to see strange criminal behaviour happening among communities: Human trafficking; Killing people with Albinism; Mob justice; Jealous and Hate of each other; Blame Game; The list is long!” said Mutharika
“Let me call upon the leadership of the General Assembly to continue nurturing the Faith and Practice of your Christians. This is important because with Faith, everything is possible. When people have faith in God, they respect his creation, they promote love.”
The Malawi leader, also told the Malawi Assemblies of God leadership that there is a lot of work that faith institutions and government have to do and called upon all denominations to make Malawi a country of people with integrity, patriotic and hard work.
Reverend Dr. Edward Chitsonga, President of the Malawi Assemblies of God General Assembly, who led the delegation of the newly elected National Executive Committee of Malawi Assemblies of God, said the Malawi Assemblies of God prays for Malawi and its leadership for God’s guidance upon, peace and prosperity of the nation, and also the good health of the people of Malawi.
He also mentioned that the church is doing a lot to complement Government efforts.
Among others, Rev. Chitsonga said in line with Government efforts in empowering women to contribute effectively to the development of the Country, for the first time in the history of the Malawi Assemblies of God, they have elected a female Secretary General Reverend Matilda Matabwa.
He further disclosed that Malawi Assemblies of God has a strategic plan that includes the opening of health care centres across the country as well as open more educational institutions and that they have Malawi Assemblies of God University, which is enriching the lives of Malawians both academically and spiritually.
“Our strategic plan includes the opening of health care centres across the country. As Church, we believe that we have responsibility to provide health care to people because we understand that healthy Christians are the ones who can contribute to the development of the Church and the nation.” He said
He assured the president that Malawi Assemblies of God is ready to render any service and support to the government of Malawi and that the church has already began this noble service through its newly registered NGO called A/G Care.
“Malawi Assemblies of God has a registered NGO known as A/G Care. Through it, we have been responding to different needs of this nation” he said
He informed President Mutharika that during disaster situations, A/G Care distributed food aid in various parts of the country, providing beddings and shelter to disaster affected people and have done this humanitarian response three times this year alone.
Through A/G Care, he said Malawi Assemblies of God has established different projects across the country; “We also empower communities through different interventions that enable them attain food security and afforestation. We have also provided safe drinking water to communities in Mchinji and other places in the country.”
The Malawi Assemblies of God newly elected National Executive Committee was elected on August 12, 2016. The church has over 2000 churches across the country and over 2000 pastors.
