| Gramps, Peetah and Mojo performance at Silver Stadium |
Sunday night performance by the famous reggae band, Morgan Heritage gets divided views in Malawi following their one and half hour live performance using laptop to play their instrumetal music tracks.
Three brothers, Peetah, Gramps and Mojo Morgan performance to fully packed Silver Stadium in Lilongwe got more negative remarks and many took to their social media begining the wee hours of Monday and the rest of the day to express their dissapointment.
The unsuspecting fans eager to watch the group performing live made loud cheers of welcoming the band immediately the MC, Kenzo B, called Morgan Heritage on stage. The band appeared on stage while the track titled 'Strictly Roots' from their latest album was playing in the background apparently from an audio playing device and it was possibly thought this could be a style of getting to the stage.
When the The Royal Family of Reggae, Morgan Heritage finally settled on stage without seeing any of them getting to the mounted musical instruments and not even single person getting ready to play the instruments, the crowd began to forsee worst night mare.
Mojo was the selector for the entire performance as Peetah and Gramps lead the vocals.
Before singing their famous hit 'Tell Me How Come' some members of audience began to make boos, and immediately Gramps was quick to tell the audience that the Sunday night performance was "an appetizer for the audience of Malawi" because the full band is coming back next year in 2016 with a great "Music Festival"
The audience hungry for live playing of musical instruments was informed by the group that the group experienced challenges that even forced two members Una and Luke to come.
"You know, due to other challenges we had to cancel our shows in Zimbabwe and Senegal but we decided not to cancel the show in Malawi. We made sure that by all means necessary we come to Malawi" Gramps told the audience
After 30 minutes into their performance the audience seemed to have accepted the situation at hand as almost everyone seemed to be enjoying the groups performance.
The audience danced and sang along with the band's famous songs including; Down By The River, I'm Coming Home, What We Need Is Love, Here Come The Kings, Ends Nah Meet, So Much To Come, Can't Get We Out, How Come and Inna Dem Ting Deh. They also danced to Gramps songs including; Hold On, For One Night, Where Mama Gone and One In A Million.
There were shouts from the crowd 'Yes Rasta!!!' every time Peetah and Gramps asked if they were enjoying and if they wanted more. Yes Rasta!!! shouts were also responses to questions if fans wants the band to hold festival in Malawi next year or if they do agree with whatever the group was telling them.
Throughout the performance, the Morgan Heritage also spoke highly about the beauty and their love for the country and Africa as well as encouraging people to to be proud of themselves as Africans.
But contrary to some views of being annoyed with playing instrumental tracks from the laptop, some of the fans said Morgan Heritage made a spectacular performance.
One fan pointed out great vocals and energy and ability to make crowd enjoy their performance as some of the greatest achievements made at the stage.
"They did not use musical instruments but they made an impressive performance because the vocals were actually not fake. We heard them singing and they sounded original and great" said one fan after the show
Morgan Heritage lead vocalist, Peetah said after performing that the show was great and had faced no disappointment throughout.
"But prepare for great festival in 2016. We will be back with the full band" promised Peetah
