Two Men Injured In Disastrous Accident In Zomba

Young driver and a bicycle taxi operator are battling for their lives at Zomba Central Hospital after being involved in a terrible car accident that took place at Zomba City boundary just before Chikupira river from Naisi to Chinamwali trading centre on Saturday between 5 and 6 pm.

An eye witness Rachel Phiri explains that the vehicle registration number BLK 57, Peugeot dark-green in color swiveled to different directions as it sped from Naisi direction to Chinamwali township which is along Lilongwe-Zomba road.

She said the vehicle abruptly went off the left side of the road through part of the newly built maize mill at Zomba City Boundary and hit a bicycle taxi operator who stood near the maize mill. Before stopping, the speeding vehicle overturned, forcing itself through the fence of one of the houses closer to the road. Luckily, the vehicle stopped just few feet away from the front of the house making a narrow escape from being hit by the vehicle.

The vehicle is seriously damaged and it is said that the driver got dropped-off the vehicle when it was rolling towards the wrecked fence.

Identities of both the driver and the bicycle operator including the owner of the vehicle are not yet known.

Some eye witness says the driver has broken legs while the bicycle taxi operator has serious injuries in the head and legs. It is alleged that the driver was drunk and was over speeding.

Some people around the area are now claiming that the place has become a death trap. One man who spoke on anonymity said more than three accidents have happened around the same place and the recent accident just occurred on Friday which is just a previous day of this accident.
