As some Asian countries continue condemning Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for paying homage to 14 Class-A war criminals at Yasukuni shrine on 26 December 2013, the Chinese Embassy in Malawi has joined other sister Diplomatic Offices across the world in condemning the Japanese Prime Minister’s calculated visit to the place.
The People’s Republic of China Ambassador to Malawi His Excellence PAN Hejun said in an interview that Abe’s visit to the war shrine reflects unremorseful to the Millions of Chinese who suffered the atrocities that Japan Militants committed during WW II.
“This Yasukuni shrine is a spiritual instrument of the Japanese Militarism during the World War II. Today the shrine still tries to justify the aggression that Japan committed during the World War II.
And in this shrine 14 Class-A war criminals are worshiped and honoured as “heroes”, so this is still a symbol of militarists of Japan even today” Narrated Ambassador Hejun
“We want Japanese leaders to listen to its neighboring countries, that they should not pay homage in this shrine and respect the Class-A war criminals. These criminals are equal to Nazi’s.” said the Ambassador
Ambassador Hejun said this visit has affected Asian countries as this is being viewed as a message to Asian people that the Militarists of Japan will come back again to hurt them through a revenge. He therefore said Japan should apologise for its crimes of World War II to its victims in China and Korea.
The Malawi Ambassador expressed the need for Japanese government to educate it’s young generation not to commit such kind of crimes against other countries so that they should have a correct view of Japanese history but not to clear the names of the criminals by paying homage.
When asked if he welcomes Japan’s call to explain the reasons for the visit to the shrine Ambassador Hejun said the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe himself had shut the door for the dialogue.
“What he did damaged the sentiments and feelings of the people of Asian Countries he deliberately made a provocation and damaged the bilateral relation then pretended to have a dialogue. This is not possible at this time” said the Chinese Ambassador
“We will not deal with Prime Minister Abe. We hope that Japanese people will correct the wrong doings, then that will help our countries to honour path of dialogue and cooperation.”
He added that it could have been better if the Japanese Prime Minister followed what Germany did for the last 43 years when on December 7, 1970, Chancellor Willy Brandt, knelt down in profound apology at the Monument to the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, a scenario deeply impressed the Europe and the whole World.
Japanese Prime Minster Shinzo Abe’s visit to pay homage to the Yasukuni Shrine aroused serious concerns across the international community especially among Asian countries of China and South Korea who warned that the visit celebrates his country's militaristic past and threatens to further sour already bad relations.
Abe has been quoted in Japanese media saying his visit to Yasukuni shrine “had not intention at all to hurt the feelings of the Chinese and Korean people” but a vow that Japan will “never wage a war again”
He also said he went to the shrine to offer respect to those who lost their precious lives for their country and prayed that their souls rest in peace.
This is not the first time for the Prime Minister Abe to irk its neighbors as in May 2013 he was also photographed posing in a Military jet marked with the number 731 a code of an infamous Japanese biological warfare research facility performing human experiments in China during the war.
Located in Tokyo, Yasukuni in 1978 enshrined 14 Clas-A war criminals and more than 1000 Class-B and Class-C national leaders who were either executed or died in prison or during their trials by order of the International Military Tribunal for the Far East
When Japan occupied large parts of China and Korean Peninsula China suffered as many as 35 Million casualties and that worshiping the war criminals at Yasukuni shrine is regarded as torture to the Asian community.
