APM Condole With Families Affected By Thunderstorm

President of the Republic of Malawi Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has send condolences to the families that have lost their relatives killed in heavy thunderstorm that began in the night of Friday till the morning hours of Saturday.

In a press statement signed by Deputy Presidential Press Secretary Timpunza  Mwansambo says president Mutharika deeply regrets the fatal accident caused by the thunderstorm that has hit parts of the country in the night of 2nd of January 2015.

The damage has left 3 children from one family dead after being hit by lightning in Kasungu District and in Lilongwe at Kauma, where Sakira Banda was electrocuted after stepping on a fallen ESCOM live-wire as she escaped when the roof to her house was being blown-off and also in Karonga where 6 people were injured.

“The President and Government extend their deepest condolences to the families of the victims of these fatal accidents, the Chiefs and the entire nation. Government pledges its support in these trying times to the affected families. May the souls of all the victims rest in eternal peace” reads the statement dated 3^rd January 2015

“The president is also very saddened to hear of injuries sustained and loss of property to our brothers and sisters In Lilongwe’s Area 49, 51, Kauma and surrounding areas. In Karonga, T/A Wasambo where 3 villages have been affected with more than 200 houses having their roofs blown-off and in T/A Kyungu’s area 1 village and dozens houses affected, leaving many people homeless.”

“The president expresses his sympathy and his thoughts are with all the affected. The Government will do all it can to assist those affected. May peace and comfort find you during this difficult time”

Having recognized the magnitude of this problem statement also said President Mutharika is pleading with all those residing in flood prone areas like in the lower shire districts of Nsanje and Chikwawa and other similar parts of the country to immediately relocate to upper areas to avoid flood- generated accidents as we are in the on-set of the rainy season.

The statement is also informing people that Salima-Nkhotakota road is impassable from a wash-away at Khombedza about 17 Kms from Salima Boma.

Mutharika Appeal for National Prayers on Good Rains

His Excellency the State President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, is            calling upon all religious leaders and the entire nation to set a side this coming weekend, (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) the 12^th to 14^th of December  2014, to dedicate time within their normal service of worship and pray for Good rains across the country.

The Malawi leader has made the call some two hours ago through a press statement signed by Mr. Timpunza Mwansambo Deputy State House Press Secretary.

Mwansambo says the President has noted with great concern that most parts of the country which by now should have received the first rains have not yet received the rains. 

Government proposes that Muslim conduct prayers on their day of worship which is on Friday, on Saturday be those who worship on Saturday and on Sunday for those who worship on Sunday.

The appeal has also been extended to those that congregate at Lunch hour fellowships, night of Prayers, Youth prayer groups, women’s prayer groups and other religious gatherings during this week and beyond.

“To those who can fast the president is calling upon them to do so. For this reason the State President requests all religious mother bodies to encourage their followers to attend these prayers.” Reads the statement

“The State President is also appealing to all cabinet Ministers, senior government officials, and members of parliament, Leaders of all political Parties, Civil Society leaders and Traditional leaders to attend these prayers in their respective or nearest places of worship.”

“The President Strongly believes that if we unite in Prayer as a nation God will surely hear us and we will have good rains and a bumper harvest.”

Radio Veteran James Chipofya Laid To Rest In Rumphi

Almost every person young and old who new James Chipofya was in tears as his family members together with his old friends were for the last time paying their last respect to Malawi's veteran Broadcaster at his home village Chifarasi in the area of Chief Principal Mwadandambi of T/A Chikulamayembe in Ruviri, Rumphi district.

The retired Malawi Broadcasting Cooporation (MBC) radio personality James Chipofya has been laid to rest on Sunday afternoon of 15th June 2014, following his death on 13 June after battling with Prostate Cancer since 2012.

Speaking when expressing the condolence, MBC Northern Region Controller Timpunza Mwansambo who represented MBC director general, described late Chipofya as a great man whose great works has unearthed many talented journalists at the State broadcaster.

"13 June 2014, we at MBC will remember it as a historical sad moment because we lost two of our great staff members, James Chipofya our teacher and James Makuluni who is also being burried today in Ntchisi district where our Director General Dr. Benson Tembo is right now"
