The South Africa-based Malawian reggae singer and producer, Born Afrikan, real name Nelson Shaba, remade the reggae cover of the song to reinforce its message about the importance of taking care of the elderly and to promote the Malawian classics.

Visitors To Ombudsman Office Must Be On Facemask

According to the notice, the measure will apply to members of the public seeking the services or simply visiting any of its offices across the country.

Malawians will once again to the poll to elect new president on 2nd July 2020, the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has announced.

Fresh presidential elections were called on 3rd February, when the High Court sitting as Constitutional Court in Lilongwe delivered a judgement in which it nullified the 2019 presidential elections and ordered that fresh election be held within 150 days.

MEC announced the date on Monday in Blantyre during the launch of the presidential election electoral calendar.

The Film Association of Malawi (FAMA) has postponed it's Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for 10th April and shifted to June 5, 2020 following Friday declaration of State of Disaster by state President Peter Mutharika due to COVID-19 threat.

Malawi has not registered any confirmed case of Coronavirus but it's neighboring countries of Zambia and Tanzania have registered cases of the pandemic.

Six new countries (two each region) from three continents of African, Americas and Western Pacific have reported cases of COVID-19, according to the World Health Organisation -WHO report on 20th March 2020.

The organization says it has partnered with WhatsApp and Facebook to launch a WHO Health Alert messaging service in order to increase access to reliable information.

Malawi Declared State of Disaster Due to COVID-19 Threat, Schools Ordered to Close

Malawi State President Professor Peter Mutharika has declared the country a State of Disaster following COVID-19 threat.

The country has not yet registered any case but neighboring countries, Tanzania and Zambia have registered cases of COVID-19 which cause Coronavirus disease now pandemic.

Malawi Develops COVID-19 Guidelines for Education Institutions

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST), has developed guidelines on COVID-19 pandemic to help education institutions manage the disease during school time and on holidays. 

World Health Organisation (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic on March 11 due to over 118,000 cases of illness in over 110 countries and territories around the world and the sustained risk of further global spread.

The education ministry in it's guidelines issued on yesterday, 17th March, 2020 has urged institutions to follow the prescribed checklist for the prevention and management of the Coronavirus in order to help the protection against infection of learners, students, staff and the general public.

Students Fight, Damages School Over Football Game

Police in Rumphi are hunting for students of Rumphi and Nyika Secondary Schools for damaging schools' properties in a fight over football match.  

Inspector Henry Mnjere, Rumphi Police Station  PRO said students clashed each other yesterday night March 16 and 17 today March 17, 2020 after a football match encounter on that took place on Saturday March 14 2020.

MISA Malawi Chapter has written President Peter Mutharika to make a public denouncement of acts of violence on journalists by his ruling party and police.

MISA Malawi Chairperson Teresa Ndanga said there is continued hostility towards the media through assault and intimidation by members of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), United Democratic Front (UDF), police and some members of general public.

Diesel, Paraffin Prices Reduced; Petrol Price Maintained

The Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has reduced prices of Diesel and paraffin while maintaining the pump price for petrol.

According to MERA, a litre of Petrol pump price remains at K930.00 while the recommended pump prices for Diesel is K887.00 per litre from a ruling pump price of K924.00. Paraffin is now at K693.60 per litre from K710.50.

‘Can’t Have It All’ was launched in Gambia, a development that led to its screening on major stations such as Africa Magic and Iroko TV.

British Council Brings Digital Solutions Among Children From Mtandire

Children trained by British Council on basic computer coding skills from peri urban area of Mtandire in Lilongwe, have created different digital based solutions to perennial problems facing their community. 

The children used a BBC micro:bit -a pocket-sized programmable computer designed to help children learn the basics of computer coding.
