Visitors To Ombudsman Office Must Be On Facemask

The Office of the Ombudsman offices will only admit visitors putting on a facemask as Coronavirus preventative measure.

According to the notice, the measure will apply to members of the public seeking the services or simply visiting any of its offices across the country.

The notice emphasizes that visitors shall be required to put on a mask or any mouth and nose covering at all times.

"The Office staff reserve the right to turn back any one without a mask." Warns The Ombudsman Office in its notice

Malawi is currently facing a rapid increase of numbers of COVID-19 cases a global pandemic caused by Coronavirus.

The Office of Ombudsman has emphasized that the new measure shall help to contain the spread of the virus amongst its staff.

The office has also urged members of the general public who come to the offices to demand the staff assisting them to put on a mask at all times.

"The office further wishes to remind all those visiting its offices to ensure that they wash their hands with water and soap thoroughly or use hand sanitizers at the designated areas before entry into its offices." Adds the notice

According to the Ministry of Health, Malawi had recorded 1402 cases including 16 deaths as of 2nd of July 2020. Of these cases, 640 are imported infections and 696 are locally transmitted while 67 are under investigation.

Dr. John Phuka Co-chairperson for the Presidential Taskforce indicated that 317 cases have recovered and that active cases are 1069.

Phuka expressed worry that the number of cases are “rising extremely fast” following the 802 cases recorded in two weeks, from 18 June 2020 to 2nd July 2020.

“It is important to regard everyone you meet as potential carrier of the disease.” Warned Phuka adding that the taskforce will meet soon to look into the possibility of reopening of school on 13 July 2020.
