Catholic MP’s Urged To Walk The Talk

Catholic legislators have been asked to represent their words with action in their spiritual and political life.

Reverend Father Henry Chimkanda made the call on Tuesday in his homily as he was celebrating the Holy Mass at the Parliament building with legislators.

“We fail to walk the talk” observed Fr. Chimkanda 

He encouraged legislators to always deliver promises made to the people during the election campaign in 2014 and underlined that as real Christian leaders they should desist from making lies because that does not please the Lord.

“You have just passed the national budget and people are expecting development but they are asking if through this budget you are speaking the truth and walking the talk”

“You are leaders now, we voted you in 2014 and you promised us a lot in 2014, but now two years down the line can we proudly say you have walked the talk? Have you delivered what you told people? And Do you go to your constituencies and face your people without any fear?” asked Fr. Chimkanda

While reminding them that their positions are a calling from God to lead the people, he then strengthened them not lose hope whenever they are facing problems. He told them to always ask the Holy Spirit to guide and strengthen them to lead people so that they can ably walk the talk.

He also inspired them to follow footsteps of their patron St. Thomas More to defended fundamental principles of justice and being genuine “statesmen when debating matters” in the House. He added that, just like their patron they must be guided by conscious and spiritual values as well as strive to be honest and effective public servants.

Towards the end of the Holy Mass Fr. Henry Chimkanda, also thanked the legislators for their kindness to vulnerable people when leader of Catholic Community Hon. Francis Kasaila announced that catholic legislators have raised half a million Kwacha (K500, 00) of which K300 thousand will go towards purchase of food to an orphanage while K200 thousand will be donated to Catholic Women Organisation conference.
