Anatomy Act Amendment Passing Excites Kalindo; This Is Beginning For Death Penalty

Kalindo

The Mulanje South Legislator, Bon Kalindo has described passing of the Anatomy Amendment Act which is calling for life sentences to convicts guilty of possession of albino tissues and body parts as "battle well fought" and "victory" for him and all Malawians.

"This is a total victory not to me alone, but to all Malawians because this is what we have been waiting for, all along." Said Kalindo

He said the total support given to the bill by all members of Parliament is a clear indication that Malawians are tired and want to end the heinous crimes of abductions and killings of persons with albinism in the country.

The lawmaker who led demonstrations calling for death penalty activation through a petition sent to the National Assembly on Thursday morning, Kalindo said passing of the Anatomy Act Amendment further sets a right direction for the country to enforce Death Penalty to albino murders.

"By passing this bill it tells you that we are making progress and that issues of abductions and killings of albinos will very soon be history because very shortly the death penalty will come and it will also be discussed in the House." He said

He continued "Yes, these are two different issues; when we talk of Anatomy Act it is an Act that deals with possession of tissues while the death penalty deals with actual murder, so, those that will be found in possession of tissues will be given life imprisonment but the actual actor, the one who has killed, one guilty of murder, will be killed."

Kalindo further said the passing of the Anatomy Amendment Act will now allow persons with albinism to breathe sigh of relief and walk freely as this is good deterrent for the criminals. He however insisted that he still could have loved to see all involved in the crimes related to attacks and killings of persons with albinism as well as exhumation of bones from graves of albinos be killed.

Meanwhile, legislator for Dowa East, Richard Chimwendo Banda who brought the Anatomy Act Amendment in the House has expressed his excitement, "I know that much as responsibility was for us, I know Malawians out there are winners."

He also disclosed that there is an arrangement between Members of Parliament and the special technical group that was appointed by the President Peter Mutharika on albino issues to ask them that the bill be assented to within a week.
