LL Police Arrests 5 Armed Criminals With Pistol, Military Kit; Another In Connection To Late Murder

Police in Lilongwe have on Thursday afternoon intercepted and arrest five suspected criminals who were on their way to rob Thanzi Poultry Farm along Mchinji road.

Lilongwe Police Public Relations Officer Sub Inspector Kingsley Dandaula confirmed the arrest of five criminals who were armed with a small Pistol gun capable to load up to 75 bullets.


Sub Inspector Dandaula says well wishers tipped off Police Investigators (CID's) in the day about the group of unknown criminals planning to carryout a robbery at Thanzi Poultry Farm in the same day.

The officer said "The Lilongwe Police CID's together with 990 at around 2 pm mobilized themselves and started off to find out more on this information. But upon reaching Njewa area the officers saw a Toyota Corrolla vehicle silver in color and immediately five men came out of the car trying to run away"

"But our officers managed to arrest all the five men and when searched were found with a small pistol gun, a panga knife and strings peeled from a vehicle tyre" he said.

Dandaula said during the interrogations at Lilongwe police station the suspects confessed that among them is a guard at Thanzi Poultry Farm Simon Masiku aged 27 who connived with them on the robbery at the farm.

"Upon hearing this information the officers went to the house of the guard to search him. There, police found uniforms similar to Military uniforms and some Malawi Defense Force kit."

"The suspects have also confessed that they are responsible for the robbery which took place some time ago where some property belonging to Manager for Central Poultry was stolen" added Sub Inspector Dandaula

The Lilongwe Police PRO however indicates that investigations are still underway as there are reports that the same suspects are responsible for robberies that have been happening in Salima district.














According to Sub Inspector Dandaula the five suspects are Simon Masiku aged 27 from Mabeleka village of T/A Mabuka in Mulanje, Amos Baton aged 24 from Mponda village T/A Mponda in Mangochi, and Grey Kagwa aged 37 from Chiluwe village T/A Kalolo, Joseph Meke aged 26 from Msiliza village and Frank Chikaonda aged 20 from Njewa village T/A Njewa, both comes from Lilongwe district and are to answer charge of being found in possession of Prohibitive Weapon contrary to Section 14 of Firearms Act.

Late Chinula Suspects Arrested

Dandaula also confirmed of another arrest of 4 suspects in connection with the murder of late Richard Chinula aged 50 who was residing in Area 47 in Lilongwe.

The criminal's using a Pangaknife they harm late Chinula in the head and died on 7th September at Kamuzu Central Hospital where he was receiving medical treatment.

Sub Inspector Kingsley Dandaula says the four have already confessed to be responsible for the murder of Chinula

Dandaula said Lilingazi Police arrested the four on Tuesday in the sand mining caves near African Bible College in Lilongwe a place where the suspects used to mine sand during the day and that more arrests are expected in connection to the same incident.

The suspects are Mavuto Mthinda aged 22 from Matepela village T/A Nsabwe in Thyolo, Edward Majawa also known as Kaning'ina aged 24, Yusufu Ali aged 24 both from Kabudula village T/A Kabudula and Lyson Kapinda aged 22 from Mlali village of T/A Malili all three suspects hails from Lilongwe district.

They are expected to answer murder charge contrary to section 209 of the penal code which attracts a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
