Kalindo Brings Lighter Moments In The House; Voluntarily Explains His Absence And Denounce President, Speaker Resignation Calls

There were some lighter moments at the very beginning of the Monday sitting in the National Assembly when Mulanje South legislature dramatised his two week absence and condemnation of resignation calls for Malawi President and the Speaker of the National Assembly.

Bon Kalindo

The comedian turned politician, Bon Kalindo transformed the House into the theatre hall when he stood on point of order just after the Speaker of the National Assembly, Richard Msowoya had finished delivering some of the important communications to the house.

The speaker recognised him to say what had gone out of order, but he began by voluntarily informing the House that his was absent for two weeks as he was busy making sure that maize is available in ADMARC depots of his constituency then disclosed that he was carrying the ‘message’ from people of his constituency as well.

“First of all, to thank Government especially the President for making sure that we have maize now in all ADMARC depots across the country and again, to tell the nation that whatever the problems Malawi is facing, it is not because of the President. It is because these problems were inherited and calling for the President to resign it is uncalled for, because he inherited these problems; the Cashgate problems, the floods and the suspension of the aid.”  He said while the whole house was laughing

“Secondly and the last one, to thank you Mr. Speaker Sir, for the way you are handling affairs in this House. You are just very good! (His remarks followed loud cheers and laughing in the Chamber). And those that are calling for your resignation should go to hell! Because you are just very good! I like you very much honourable Speaker Sir!” he stopped to take his seat while Members were left laughing

But, Speaker Richard Msowoya found Kalindo out of order while admitting that he has taken note of  good reasons for absence in the first two weeks of the ongoing Second Meeting of the 46th Session of the National Assembly.
