Dowa Court Convicts 16  Ethiopians On Illegal Entry, Man Arrested for Possession of Indian Hemp



16 Ethiopian nationals have been convicted by Dowa Magistrate Court after an arrested last week, when they were about to enter Dzaleka refugee camp.


The 16 have been sentenced to pay a fine of K5,000 each in default to save three months of imprisonment and hard labour then to be deported back to their country.


The arrests of the 16 Ethiopians last week by Dowa Police brings the total number Ethiopians arrested on illegal entry to 87 this year alone.


Police in the same district of Dowa have arrested Grecian Soko aged 42 for being found with two travelling bags containing Indian hemp. 


Dowa Police Public Relations Officer Sergeant Richard Kaponda says police officers manning Dowa turn off road block on Monday this week intercepted the bags packed in a min bus enroute to Lilongwe. The hemp estimated about 50kgs is to be taken to Chitedze Research station for testing. 


Soko comes from Kasonda village Traditional Authority Tambala in Dedza District.
