NASAF Publicity Secretary Resign; Joins MCP

Publicity Secretary for National Salvation Front Party (NASAF) Mr. Joseph Mulungu has announced quit from the party and join Malawi Congress Party (MCP) to serve Dr. Chakwera as he believes the former party has lost its focus.

The General Secretary for NASAF has also confirmed the development.

Mulungu revealed that he has resigned when I tried to contact him on Monday to speak on NASAF matters, how ever he quickly responded that he is no longer with NASAF

“I am no longer a Publicity Secretary for NASAF or a member of that party, I resigned effective on 17 August. If you want to talk about that party’s issues then contact the General Secretary” Joseph Mulungu said in a phone response

When asked on email interview the reason why he decided to leave the party which he served for 2 years said he is disappointed with the party on its strides to face 2014 elections

“NASAF has failed to demonstrate its readiness to govern this country. This is evidenced in disorganization at all levels party’’ revealed Mulungu.

“Right now, there is nothing happening on the ground by way of sensitizing voters to register, it has no offices and its leadership is always outside the country as such it fails to appreciate Malawians problems. I WOULD NOT wish to continue associating myself with it” narrated Mulungu.

Joseph Mulungu however, denied any inside conflicts as a cause of his resignation but said he made the decision to leave the party some months ago as he feels that after Bingu Wa Mutharika’s death, the party stopped from listening to Malawians and therefore it lost its focus.

The former Publicity Secretary described two year period he worked for NASAF as a leaning process and has since thanked the party for trust it had in him by accord him a National Position.

How ever, Mr. Mulungu said he is happy now that he has joined MCP

“I have decided to help Malawi Congress Party form government in 2014 by trying to help mobilize membership in the North and across the country. This is so because the party has demonstrated its willingness to listen to Malawians through its just passed Convention at NRC. I feel any Malawian of good will need to support this cause.” Said Mr. Mulungu

He believes MCP can provide solutions for Malawians for the past decade where Malawi experienced a period policy reversal.

“At one time a country would be seen making good progress, only to backtrack due to change of political leadership with different aspiration to that of MALAWIANS. This has caused our people to suffer”

“MCP has organized structure which I believe will raise the hope our people. Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is clean as far as Malawi politics is concerned and I believe he can unite this country as he did with Assemblies of God.” Said Mulungu

He also said many people will register because they have a leader to vote for and needs the support.

Reacting to Mulungu’s defection General Secretary for NASAF Mr. Lester Chikoya said in an interview that Mulungu has just exercised his constitutional right.

“The republican constitution provides for freedom of association. We believe Mr. Joseph Mulungu is exercising his right to join any other political party, he came in of his own will and he has left for his own free will.” Said Chikoya

Chikoya added “Every political party will in Malawi will experience people coming in and people coming out. For the party to start regretting over those simple issues then it does not know the right of the people”

The General Secretary has made it clear that the party had no problems with Mulungu during his stay at NASAF.

Chikoya confirmed NASAF’s readiness to rule this country come 2014 as it has membership of over 2 Million people across the Country and from September 1 when its party president James Nyondo is to arrive, it is expected to conduct national wide rallies where the party will start unveiling a lot of plans on how it will revolutionarise this country.
