A lot of business operators outside the main Area 3 market in Lilongwe have been ordered to vacate the land which they have been operating for many years following the sale of the land to a businessman by the Lilongwe City Council.

A television show called Blind Date Malawi is set to beam in local television channels and promises to be an exciting lovers’ reality show that will bringing a unique and captivating twist to the reality TV genre.

Producer for the show, Ezaius Mkandawire shared that Blind Date Malawi will follow the journey of couples from diverse backgrounds and walks of life, as they navigate challenges, adventures, and emotional moments together.

MEC urges media to introduce programs, messages on elections

The Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has challenged media houses and practitioners in the country to prepare for the upcoming September 2025 General Election, by implementing electoral radio programmes and mass media messaging around elections.

MEC Chairman, Justice Dr. Chifundo Kachale made the call today at Mponela in Dowa district during the sensitization workshop on new electoral laws and holding of by-elections to the Senior Editorial managers drawn from various media houses.

Malawi Para Games July 27, official sponsor unveiled

The Malawi Paralympic Committee (MPC) has confirmed that the first ever Malawi Para Games will take place next week on July 27 in Lilongwe where over 100 athletes are expected to participate.

MPC president, James Chiutsi made the announcement during a press conference at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe where MPC also unveiled K2-Transformers Malawi as the official sponsor for the games.

Religious leaders lead Malawians in anti-homosexuality march

 Scores of Malawians across the country, took to the street on Thursday to express their disapproval with proposals to stop criminalization of homosexuality in the country.

Led by different religious mother bodies, the national wide march dubbed “In defense of marriage, family, and human sexuality” took place in various districts including Lilongwe, Blantyre, Mzuzu, Zomba, Chikwawa, Machinga, Mangochi and Rumphi.

The petition has asked the Malawi president Dr. Lazarus Chakwera and his cabinet as well as members of parliament to reject proposals to legalize homosexuality in the country’s constitution.

Young Malawians from Light of Youth Creative Organization (LYCO) who traveled to Zambia on Thursday for the 2023 Jacaranda Children and Youth Arts Festival, are expected to perform this evening at Lusaka Playhouse in the capitol of Lusaka.

It is expected that the Malawi High Commissioner to Zambia, Margaret Constance Kamoto will be present to watch the drama and dances prepared by the Malawi troupe.

“We are set to perform this evening at 18:30, and we are excited with the presence of Malawi High Commissioner to Zambia at this event.” Confirmed James Kitchen, Executive Director of LYCO.

He said LYCO is going to showcase drama titled Nyangu and two dances – Gule Wamkulu and M’bwiza. He said Nyangu was written by Fumbani Phiri and was directed by Joyce Mhango Chavula.

Use of Friendship Bench mental health intervention has demonstrated to be effective in reducing depression among pregnant women living with HIV and help them adhere to HIV care.

The Periscope Study by UNC Project conducted between 2019 and 2022 targeting 80 participants, investigated the Adaptation of the Friendship Bench Mental Health Intervention for HIV-Infected Perinatal Women in Malawi.
